Other countries don’t want more burners JOHN AHERN of Indaver Ireland (Irish Examiner letters, November 11) tried yet again to pull the wool over our eyes with regard to the need for his company’s proposed toxic waste incinerator at Ringsakiddy.God bless him, he’s only doing his job and we’ve all heard his corporate propaganda before anyway. However, it’s interesting that he does not refute my comment (Irish Examiner letters, November 6) that the only reason the company wants to construct the incinerator in Cork harbour is because no other country will allow further toxic waste incinerators to be built. Indaver would make so much money from the proposed incinerator that they are prepared to gamble the outlay of running offices and paying staff on the strength of the plant being built. Mr Ahern’s comments resemble those of the advocates of nuclear power who sold Sellafield to the English people 40 years ago. Roger Ellis Irish Examiner, November 18, 2004 |
